This article will explain a few activities that teachers can use when creating their preschool lesson plans about feelings.

Preschool lesson plans on feelingsTeaching children of this age about feelings can be complicated and sometimes frustrating. There are so many emotions in the human world that teaching children about them all can be over whelming. When dealing with preschool children it is best to keep things as simple as possible. Keep your feeling lesson plan uncomplicated by teaching your class about the basic human emotions such as happy, sad, angry and so forth. Here are some activities you can use when teaching kids about feelings.

Book Of Emotions - This activity will help your class develop their understanding of the basic emotions, and give them a tool to use when talking about how they feel. Before doing this activity there are a few things you must prepare first. Cut several pieces of construction paper in half to create pages for a book. With a hole puncher, create holes in one side of each page. It is best to do this in groups of papers so that the holes match up evenly. Give each child the same amount of pages and ask them to draw faces for each emotion you plan to teach them. When they have finished drawing their emotion faces, help them write sentence on each page. It should say something along the lines of "It makes me (insert correct emotion) when (insert something that makes them feel this emotion)". When you have helped the children create their pages, help them tie yarn through the holes. This will bind their book together. You can put pictures of the children on the front page or simply write their names. The finished project will be a book of emotions that they can refer to while learning about emotions and when trying to tell someone how they are feeling.

Emotion Masks - This is a simple activity to do with young children. All you will need is paper plates and Popsicle sticks. Have the children draw different emotion faces on the paper plates and glue them to the Popsicle sticks. You can now use these for many different activities.

Emotion Snack Ideas - You can do this activity with sugar cookies or English muffins. If you are, using sugar cookies supply the kids with unfrosted cookies and have them frost them to look like faces. They can make their cookie any emotion that they would like. If using English muffins spread peanut butter on them and use raisins to make happy or sad faces. English muffins are a healthier way to utilize this snack idea.

Remember to tread lightly when teaching about emotions as no two children will feel the same way in the same situations.
